FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSDoes Liberal Vision take specific policy positions? No. At least not at this stage. We seek to bring together all LibDem supporters who support lower taxes, a smaller state and an extension of personal freedom. Not all of these people will agree on every policy point, but we believe we can achieve a lot by working together. What do you hope to achieve? We hope to encourage the Liberal Democrats to adopt lower taxation, a smaller state and more personal freedom as key principles in its policy agenda. How do you hope to achieve this? To begin with, simply by bringing together LibDems who share our values of low, tax, small government and more personal freedom. But we also intend to operate within the party’s constitution to promote these ideals by proposing and supporting policies consistent with these aims and assisting candidates within the party who share them. Do I have to be a Liberal Democrat member to support you? No. We do ask that you are at least a supporter of the Liberal Democrats – but we will not be checking this against any form of central database. If you are not a party member, we strongly encourage you to join. What is the difference between becoming a Liberal Vision supporter and a Liberal Vision member? We want to reach out to as many LibDems as possible, so if you agree with our ideals, it’s completely free to join as a supporter. But if you can possibly afford it, we would ask you to pay us a membership subscription of at least £20 per annum. How is Liberal Vision run? It is an unincorporated association which is run as a “benign dictatorship”. If you expect internal democratic elections, AGMs, committee meetings and minute taking, this may not be the organisation for you. That said, Liberal Vision’s Chairman and Director wish to involve and engage as many supporters as possible. As our membership and supporter base grow, we will review our structures. What is your relationship with Progressive Vision? In strict legal terms, we are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the classical liberal think tank, Progressive Vision, and describe ourselves as an “affiliate”. We share Progressive Vision’s aims and values but Liberal Vision is NOT obliged to support all or any of Progressive Vision’s specific policies – and neither are Liberal Vision’s members or supporters.
