Who will get the LDs’ second safest seat?

September 17th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized by

johnbarrettNews reaches me via the interweb that a shortlist of four has been drawn up as to who will be the likely Lib Dem MP for Edinburgh West after the General Election.

The lucky four are:

  • Paul Edie (social care convener)
  • Euan Robson (former Scottish Government minister)
  • Mike Crockart (ex-policeman)
  • Siobhan Mathers (party policy convener)

Current MP John Barrett is standing down at the election.

Rumours of a late bid from Irfan Ahmed have yet to be corroborated.

As a blogger almost on the spot (the constituency is just on the other side of the rail tracks) I’ve been assured that romours of Irfan’s bid are a figment of someone’s dillusioned imaginings. :p

Ah! Vital info from the scene of the action. Do let us know if you hear anything to the contrary…

Unfortunately, the bad news is that Mike Crockart won the selection. Having stood in the North of the City in 2005 and 2007, he was very nearly deselected by the Local Party over his apparent lack of effort. Not exactly the attitude you want to have for a new candidate in a safe seat when trust in politics is at its lowest ebb for decades :vO
