The New Labour disaster in 4 minutes

Here’s Liberal Vision’s take on the rise and fall of New Labour – set to the unmistakeable beat of 99 Red Balloons by Nena. Contains graphic violence.

Has Ms. Harbutt got her Boots splicing kit out again?
Joking apart this is quite superb, 12 years of needless violence and economic meltdown. A large Bombay Saphire and tonic peu t’etre?

This is very impressive.

Very well done and sobering.

make a good PPB at the election!
Now imagine a parliament where such decisions are arrived at by genuine debate of elected representatives and not party whips acting on a distorted representation of the will of the people.

Awesome!
99 red balloons is one of my most overplayed one hit wonders, and it complemented the ‘action’ really well.
Let me help do the next one?

Hi Kirsty. Glad you liked it. Not sure what the theme of the next one will be yet but they are great fun to make. We are always happy to have ideas/help/input I can be reached at angela.harbutt@liberal-vision.org anytime.

Very well put together. I agree with John, this could be the inspiration for a knockout PPB!

Good video, but it does seem to suggest that everything would have gone well if it wasn’t for the Twin Towers. You could have started in Year 1 with Bernie Ecclestone and the Hinduja brothers!
I agree with John and Dave, though. We need to think about a new style for PPBs. They are such utter, boring agony. If one times the PPB to appear in peak viewing time for a target audiance (if they don’t have to be juxtaposed with the News) and add a positive message (this one doesn’t say “Vote Lib Dem,” just “Don’t vote Labour”) it could be really powerful.

Thanks for the comment Tom. It was strangely hard to find footage of the “early years” of the New Labour era (other than acres of footage of “that Diana” speech after her death). I take your point about the twin towers – though we were sticking as much as we could to the lyrics of the song so there was a compromise – as there often is in these cases. Always a question of when to stop “tweaking” and just get it out there….
