Chris Davies severs connections with UAF, Hancock and Carmichael yet to respond
June 14th, 2009 Posted in UK Politics by Mark Littlewood
Chris Davies MEP seems to be a regular topic of discussion on this blog as of late. He deserves three cheers for swiftly condemning UAF’s bust-up of the BNP’s abortive press conference last week. But he also merits a fourth cheer for contacting UAF last week, demanding to be removed from their list of supporters.
So far, I haven’t had a reply from Alistair Carmichael or Mike Hancock, the two LibDem MPs claimed as supporters by Unite Against Fascism. You can email Alistair at carmichaela@parliament.uk and Mike at portsmouthldp@cix.co.uk . Please do so, and ask them to withdraw from the Socialist Worker-run UAF immediately.

You might want to take the third “e” out of “severes”. But it’s good news!

Good spot. Thanks.

The UAF have spotted an opportunity - since the most recent left-wing collapse there’s another chance to raise attention and sell newspapers.
I am not totally aganist the UAF’s protests - okay, so egg throwing isn’t exactly reputation building, and the Newsnight performance was a bit NUS. But following a couple of meetings I have been to (where I made sure my place as the only LibDem and only mainstream person in the room was made clear!) the general mood was towards keeping the more extreme behaviour to a minimum. They are as stunned and saddened by the BNP success as anyone.
The SWP are talking, again(!), about building an alternative alliance for workers, equality, and socialism. The democrat part of me supports them, and any group wanting to beat the BNP. The same democrat part of me questions the egg-throwing, but agreeing with every thing they do specifically is not why I want to defeat the BNP.

I’ve not been keeping up with which politicians have been severing their links winks with Unite Against Fascism & so has anybody heard whether Cameron has?
June 14th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
@Ziggy: No, I’ve not heard a peep yet. A friend of mine is a Conservative activist and said he’d write to Cameron to ask him to remove his name. In fact, I haven’t seen anything in the news about people withdrawing support. Mr Littlewood obviously has inside information on Chris Davies’ decision because I have not been able to find any mention of it elsewhere on the web.
Still waiting for Alistair Carmichael and Mike Hancock….
