In Malta count is underway, but Labor is set to win by a big margin (55 to 40) according to projections
June 7th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Sorry, I fail to understand why the UK a) doesn’t have any exit polls published and b) hasn’t started counting any votes yet!!
June 7th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Don’t apologise, Jim, I’m equally baffled.
June 7th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
UK results *are*, as I understand it, being counted and will be released at 2000 GMT.
June 7th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Jim/Julian, The law states that results/exit polls are not supposed to be released until all polls have closed right across the EU. That happens at 9pm UK time. However, the rule is often honoured in the breach – e.g. I understand a Swiss Tv company has released the French results.
June 7th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
France?! Like, oh my Gaaad. Do we have them to hand? (the results, I mean)
June 7th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
I see Geert Wilders party has done well
They can speak freely in the European Parliament but not in Britain
June 7th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
Indeed, and no thanks to Chris Huhne.
Sadly the VVD have lost a seat.

June 7th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Zut alors! Look at the second PS figures!
June 7th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
in the Nederlands VVD down one as predicted but D66 (the other Liberal party there is up by two, one more than projected. Happy with hat actually.

It looks to me as if the Danish results as presented confuse Denmark’s major liberal Party (Venstre) with the small grouping of refugees from various parties, Liberal Alliance. I would guess the figure attributed to Libera;l Alliance is Ventstre’s vote. It would be a real extreme shocker if LA had got that many votes and Venstre had fallen off the list of major parties
June 7th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Hi Barry, I copied those ones straight from a comment on a blog, so not the most robust source (!). You’re likely right, so it’s been amended.

@ Julian
Which party in France is the far right party?
June 7th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Front National, oui?
June 7th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Oh good they only got 5%
June 7th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I’ve heard the far right have done well in Hungry
June 7th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
The BNP have won their first seat
June 8th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Complete preliminary results from Sweden:
Social Democrats (oppostion): 24.6% (n/c) – (5 seats)
Moderate Party (gov’t): 18.8% (+0.5) – (4 seats)
Liberal People’s Party (gov’t): 13.6% (+3.7) – gains a third seat
Green Party (opp.): 10.9% (+4.9) – gains a second seat
Pirate Party: 7.1% (new party) – gains its first seat ever
Left Party (opp.): 5.6% (-7.2) – loses a seat, left with one
Centre Party (gov’t): 5.5% (-0.8) – (1 seat)
Christian Democrats (gov’t): 4.7% (-0.9) – (1 seat)
June List (Eurosceptic): 3.6% (-10.9) – lost all three seats
Sweden Democrats (=Swedish BNP): 3.3% (+2.2) – (0 seats)
Turnout: 43.8% (+6.7)
An excellent result for our Swedish sister party (Liberal People’s Party) and for the Pirate Party. If/when the Lisbon treaty is ratified Sweden will gain two extra seats, probably with one going to the Pirate Party and one to the Social Democrats.
